Our Purpose Big Darby Baptist Church exists as a body of believers in Jesus Christ, called to share life together in order to evangelize our community and the world. Using the Bible as our authority, we seek to teach, equip, and encourage each other to mature in our faith and worship, and thus honor our God.
Worship We meet regularly to express our worship of God using music, prayer, and Bible preaching.
Teaching We have study classes, seminars, mentoring, counseling, and retreats to help anyone seeking God. We believe Christians are disciples who are learning and changing to be more like Jesus.
Fellowship Fellowship is a part of how we care for one another. We believe that the support of a network of persons of faith is vital for everyone in our congregation. Missions As a part of Big Darby Church, you can touch our community, our nation, and the world through your direct involvement in mission work. Opportunities range from serving in the food pantry and helping the homeless, to assisting with medical care in foreign countries. Big Darby people are ready to help anywhere when unexpected disasters occur. Our Mission in the Community Big Darby Baptist Church exists as a body of believers in Jesus Christ called to share life together in order to evangelize our community and the world. Vision Statement “Big Darby is committed to reaching our community through a ministry of caring and love to bring people into relationship with Christ so they may live transformed lives through Him.”
Our Symbol and Motto Where the thirsty can find refreshment
Our symbol and theme arise out of our name being connected with the Big Darby Creek which flows nearby the church, (a place where we sometimes do our baptisms). Jesus is the Living Water who gives us life and refreshes our souls. As we immerse our lives in Him, we find the needs of our lives being met. Guiding Principles for All Ministries 1) God’s Word the FoundationGod’s Word is the foundation for all that we do at Big Darby. Our guiding principles come from the Word so that all we do and say is based upon what the Lord has said. 2) Intentional About EvangelismOur purpose as Christians is to make disciples of Jesus. We, therefore, encourage and give opportunity for all to make a profession of faith in Christ through all that we do. 3) Culturally Relevant but Doctrinally PureOur ministries are designed to reach people where they are without compromising the Gospel of Jesus 4) Authentic in Our RelationshipsThe Body of Christ is about how we relate to one another in Christ. The Church must be a place where persons can work out their problems in acceptance and love. 5) Unified Community of ServantsWe are all servants of the Lord and each other. We are not lords over one another. As servants, we must live out our spiritual gifts for the benefit of each other. All must be involved: we are ministry givers not ministry consumers. The symbol of the disciple is the towel, giving service to one another in the love of Jesus. 6) Love PermeatesWe must do all in love. (1 Corinthians 16:14) Our love for one another is what sets us apart as Jesus’ disciples. Love is woven in and through all ministries. 7) Excellence Our God deserves our best. Whatever our level of talent, we need to give our best to Him who gave His best for us!
Our Distinctive Baptist Beliefs We share with other evangelical denominations a belief in the great doctrines of the Church: the triune God, salvation through Jesus Christ, the Bible as God’s written revelation of Himself to us, and believer’s baptism by immersion. Each congregation of Baptists is self-governing. We believe the most important decision a person is ever called upon to make concerns their acceptance of God’s plan of salvation provided through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We believe the Bible has God’s help for an individual’s personal problems in this life, especially those concerning his/her relationship to God and other people. Our Church is a self-governing congregation but for more effective ministry and mission, we cooperate and fellowship with the following: The Plain City Church Fellowship The Columbus Baptist Association The American Baptist Churches of Ohio The American Baptist Churches in the USA.
